The Alma residence is set against a dramatic, mountain-facing landscape in Central Asia, where the inspiration for this luxury interior design project was simple: create a home that unites the comfort and luxury of modern living with the beauty of its natural surroundings. LUMI Interiors approached the 10,500-square-foot villa as two connected worlds, a main house and a guest house, each designed with a distinct character yet unified by a single, considered material story.
A Material Palette Inspired by the Landscape
Throughout Alma, bespoke designs in metal, wood, and textured fabric are paired with a color scheme deliberately sympathetic to the surrounding scenery. The villa’s mountain-facing views, reminiscent of the grandeur of the Swiss Alps, informed almost every material decision, from the warmth of natural timber to the tactile depth of woven textiles. The result is an interior that feels rooted in its setting: refined and tactile rather than ostentatious, with luxury expressed through quality and craftsmanship instead of excess.
Two Homes, One Considered Story
Designing both the main house and guest house within a single estate gave our team the opportunity to explore variation within a unified palette. Each space carries its own mood: softer and more intimate in the guest quarters, more expansive and layered in the principal residence, while sharing the same commitment to bespoke craftsmanship and considered detail that defines LUMI’s approach to luxury interior design. Guests move between the two homes without ever losing the thread that ties Alma together as a single, coherent estate.
Designing for Light, Texture, and Everyday Living
Mountain light changes constantly through the day, and Alma’s interiors were designed to respond to it. Layered textures, from soft upholstery to hand-finished wood, catch and hold the light differently depending on the hour, giving every room a sense of movement and depth. Living and entertaining spaces were planned to flow naturally toward the views, while more private areas were positioned to feel enclosed, calm, and insulated from the outside world. It is a balance we return to often in residential projects: a home should feel spectacular for entertaining and completely restful for everyday family life.
A Collaborative, Considered Design Process
As with every LUMI Interiors project, Alma began with close collaboration with the client, understanding how the family lives, entertains, and unwinds before a single material was chosen. That process shaped decisions as significant as the layout of the guest house and as small as the finish on a single handle, and it is this attention to detail, at every scale, that separates a truly bespoke interior design project from a simply decorated one.
